Regional Features of Washington

Washington State is characterized by deep evergreen forests, the beautiful waters of Puget Sound, and the majestic silhouette of Mount Rainier with its perennial snow. Seattle, the largest city, is a mecca of innovation, hosting the headquarters of world-changing IT companies, aircraft manufacturers, and global coffee chains. As there is no state individual income tax, the economic benefits are significant. The food culture is incredibly rich; the giant salmon flying through the air at the famous Pike Place Market, along with Dungeness crab and raw oysters, are as fresh as can be. Coffee culture is deeply rooted here, with easily found artisanal roasteries and cafes. In the arid eastern region, apples, cherries, and high-quality wine grapes are produced, making winery tours a popular activity. In music, the state is known as the birthplace of Grunge rock. While it has an image of being rainy, the summers feature continuous sunny days and low humidity, making it an amazing season. Outdoor activities like hiking and kayaking are part of daily life, and people tend to be environmentally conscious. With many Asian immigrants, the quality of Japanese food in the region is exceptionally high.
