| Responsibilities | <JOB SUMMARY> Assemble and try out complex dies from Japan or local sources on manufacturing equipment. Will possess more than 8 years of working knowledge involving the repair, use, and operation of stamping dies and power presses. Training will include on the job work experience with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive supplier or stamping die manufacturer or combination thereof involving training and work experience. Works closely with the Engineering Manager to develop and modify die design to achieve customer product and quality expectations. ▼ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Sets-up the die trials for 45-1200 ton capacity stamping and transfer presses that are imported from Japan. * Works closely with all tool and die technicians to maintain the quality and productivity of all dies (assists with shimming and sharpening dies as needed). * Ensures continued maintenance of all dies imported or supplied by the customer during production. * Coordinates all die changes and modifications through discussions with the customer/client. * Confers with Japanese contemporaries during die trials to make necessary alterations and changes. * Motivates personnel within the department to effect high productivity and conformance to quality standards. * Coaches all personnel under direct authority of the position in proper skill and knowledge necessary to care for each individual die. * Strives for a team approach in solving problems both within and outside the department. * Develops and maintains an efficient and thorough method of control for documenting and tracking die repairs and preventive maintenance. * Plans the setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds. * May work with product designers providing input to manufacturing capability on newly formed products. * Studies blueprints of die and product die models, templates, and prototype parts and visualize shape, mechanical structure, and operation of die. |

| Requirements | * Must possess more than 8 years of working knowledge involving the repair, use, and operation of stamping dies and power presses. * Work experience with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive supplier or a stamping die manufacturer. * Knowledge of automotive metal stamping and die manufacturing within the customs of the Japanese business culture is necessary. * Must understand JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) to make final decisions on new products. * Sound knowledge of engineering theory and design criteria, or a commensurate level of related experience. * All customers are Japanese. * All die sources are Japanese, requiring the ability to understand specifications and designs written in Japanese. * Over 90% of equipment is made in Japan, requiring the ability to understand equipment specifications written in Japanese. * Troubleshooting must be done with an engineering center in Japan, requiring the ability to explain issues and understand solutions in Japanese. * Must be able to understand technical terms to make appropriate comments and suggestions in meetings with customers regarding product claims or design changes. * Proficiency in spreadsheet software (like Microsoft Excel), word processing programs (like Word), and strong drafting/CAD skills. |
| Preferred | * 5+ years of supervisory or management experience in the manufacturing/industrial field (automotive preferred). * A Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university, with a preference for backgrounds in General Engineering, Industrial Technology, Industrial Engineering, or Materials Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
