Regional Features of Oregon (Portland, etc.)

Oregon (Portland, etc.)

Oregon is a state with a unique and creative culture, characterized by lush forests, a beautiful coastline, and the iconic slogan, "Keep Portland Weird." It is also a frequent destination for Japanese high-tech companies. The culinary culture is exceptionally high-level, with a strong emphasis on Farm-to-Table (local production for local consumption). The coffee culture, in particular, is among the best in the nation, with artisanal cafes found throughout the cities. The state is also globally recognized for its craft beer and wine regions, and pies made with the local specialty, marionberries, are exquisite. The area around Portland is known as the "Silicon Forest", serving as a business stronghold where semiconductor and high-tech industries, as well as the headquarters of global sportswear brands, are concentrated. Many Japanese companies have established bases here. The greatest economic advantage of living in this region is the absence of state sales tax. This results in high effective purchasing power, earning it a reputation as a shopping paradise. Environmental consciousness is high, and bicycle commuting and vintage fashion are common. For those who love an unconventional, free lifestyle combined with rich food and nature, it is an incredibly comfortable place to be.
