Regional Features of Michigan

Surrounded by the vast Great Lakes, Michigan is a beautiful state defined by water and forests. Detroit, known as "Motor City," has carved out a long history in the automotive industry and continues to host a high concentration of R&D centers and parts suppliers for Japanese automakers. Consequently, the Japanese population is very high, and the living infrastructure, including Japanese supermarkets and supplementary schools, is among the best in the nation. Regarding food culture, Detroit-style pizza, characterized by its square shape and thick crust, is famous, as is the cherry pie from Traverse City, a major cherry-producing region. The state is also home to numerous craft breweries, making it a dream destination for beer lovers. Summers are exceptionally comfortable with low humidity; popular activities include visiting northern resorts like Mackinac Island or enjoying boating and fishing on the lakes. While winters are cold and snowy, skiing and snowboarding are easily accessible. The state is rich in spots symbolizing American industry and culture, such as the Henry Ford Museum and the Motown Museum. With a low cost of living and a great balance between nature and urban functions, it is an extremely livable region for Japanese families.
