Regional Features of New Jersey

New Jersey

Located directly across the river from Manhattan, New Jersey is a popular area that balances the convenience of a major metropolis with the spaciousness of suburban life. The areas around Fort Lee and Edgewater host one of the largest concentrations of Japanese residents in the U.S.; centered around the massive Japanese supermarket "Mitsuwa," the area is lined with ramen shops, sushi restaurants, and bakeries, making a lifestyle similar to one in Japan possible.
The state is also known as the "Diner Capital of the World," and the local style is to enjoy heaping breakfasts or burgers at retro, 24-hour diners. A true New Jersey soul food is the Pork Roll (or Taylor Ham) sandwich, processed meat grilled and served with cheese and egg. In the summer, the coastline known as the Jersey Shore bustles with visitors seeking the beach. It is also famous as a producer of tomatoes and blueberries, earning it the nickname the "Garden State". With extremely high educational standards and many safe neighborhoods, it is one of the top choices for education-minded Japanese expatriate families. It is a prime location where you can enjoy the culture and business of New York while living in a lush, green environment.
